LMG Recon

The LMG Recon is a Primary Receiver for Blacklight: Retribution. It can be unlocked once an Agent reaches level 50 or at any level when purchased with ZEN.

Tactics

Mixing the traits of the traditional LMG and SMG, the LMG Recon possess the damage, ammo capacity, recoil and range of the LMG and the minimum and maximum aim and hip spread of the SMG. As decided by its traits, the LMG Recon is more a support role weapon leaning towards aggressive tactics. Thanks to its considerable Ammunition capacity and damage potential, this weapon can be modded for close quarter engagements, like on HeloDeck and Decay. Crouching will decrease the spread of your weapon, and help increase the LMG Recon's precision. Unlike the LMG the Recon variant can also be used for long range firefights; when modified properly. Thus, a Scope and Long Range Barrel may also be used to improve accuracy and adjust to the weapon's rather smaller spread when compared to the LMG. Aim for headshots!

As a support weapon, the LMG Recon's large magazine and range allows it to effectively pick off stray hostiles or defenders around an objective. Co-ordinate with your team; aimed and controlled bursts from the Recon can be used to pick off rushing hostiles or force hostiles into cover. Unlike the LMG, the Recon can be utilized to a limited degree in open and large maps like Evac, Nuken and Trench where its damage, spread and range can make opponents think twice of approaching your team's flanks. And its lighter weight compared to its heavier cousin makes the risk of sprinting around such maps much more manageable.

Glaring drawbacks of the LMG Recon are its dismal reload time and rate of fire. Although gifted with a large magazine, rendering reloads sparse and few, when the time comes you will be left defenseless for several seconds; especially when upgraded with a drum magazine. Remember to find some cover, use your HRV to check for hostiles, then reload your weapon.

Nevertheless, compared to the LMG, the Recon has a lower reload time even with drum magazine; at most 4.83 seconds than the default 6.67 seconds of a LMG without its quick magazine mod. Even a LMG with quick reload magazine giving 3.33 seconds of reload time can be beaten by LMG Recon's with Light magazines; giving the later 3.00 seconds of reload time.

To add to this is the LMG Recon's rate of fire of 450 (lower than the Assault Rifle itself) will make close combat engagements risky or even suicide when there's three or more hostiles cramped together in a room, especially if they are armed with SMG's and AR's. Leave them to a grenade or your buddies with CQC weapons.

But you can circumvent this with a high damage muzzle and barrel with a minimum spread stock. This should make each bullet as punishing as that of a Combat Rifle or high damage LMG and make as many bullets find their mark to make up for its low rate of fire. Nevertheless, in a 1 on 1 firefight between the LMG and the Recon, the former will have a better chance of winning it, so pick your fights carefully.

As with the latest recoil system update in-game, the LMG-R has its own recoil pattern just like some of the other receivers. Its initial burst will pull the weapon diagonally towards the right before drifting off back diagonally towards the crosshairs and finally pull the gun vertically up until the recoil settles in (just like the LMG where the initial shot will generate a huge amount of recoil, albeit more manageable). After which the recoil will remain consistent until the player stops firing.

The LMG Recon is therefore a much more effective weapon than the LMG for being able to be geared to more types of specialized roles. Thus before the start of each match it is recommended to modify it to suit your play style and tactics. When utilized properly, it can be a devastating weapon in the right and experienced hands.
